Preamble to Tonal Drawing Workshop

Charcoal drawing of Brian Mooney

Every artist lives today in a modern and a postmodern world.

It is called a ‘postmodern’ world because ‘modern’ moved on in the late 1960s.

Commentators decided on behalf of the entire world to label new fashions as postmodern. They ushered in the ‘anything goes & the audience does not matter’ paradigms.

However, there are contemporary artists who continue in the ‘modern’ styles and some of them even continue to champion older academic techniques and methods of training.
